My Sisters

My sisters

My sisters and I were born right after World War II, officially making us baby boomers. Since we were born close together in 1945, 1946 and 1947 we always had a tight bond between us. We do have two brothers born five and seven years later. They are wonderful guys but are, after all, only baby brothers.

Our early years were spent traveling around California and at times in Oklahoma, depending on the jobs my father lost and found. My oldest sister Rebecca said that we moved at least 2-3 times every year until I was in 5th grade. To support us our mother found work driving trolley cars in Los Angeles and later buses in Oakland. Many times we would have been homeless and hungry but for generous and loving relatives. Looking back, I realize that my dearest friends moved with me every time. Our difficult and transient childhood strengthened the ties we still have today. We didn’t have a lot of material possessions, but no matter where we were, we had the love of our family and of each other.

Our lives changed for the better when our mom fell in love with and married a fellow bus driver. After that we lived in the same home until each of us married.  As grown women we are extremely different and at the same time very much alike. We each cherish our families, love to read, and believe in the power of prayer. Time and distance have no effect on our connections to each other. I named my business, “My Sisters Cottage” to honor not only my sisters, but the very idea of sisters. If you are a sister to a sister, you know what I mean.
